Passive stretching – diabetes and heart health

Passive stretching may help prevent diabetes and heart disease-related vascular problems, according to a study released in July 2020 in the Journal of Physiology. (I read these, so you don’t have to 🙂).

What they found was that 12 weeks of passive stretching (just using your body, no external forces or equipment) 5 times a week, improved blood flow and arterial dilation in the lower legs. Decreased general arterial stiffness was measurable.

Stretching can help improve muscle and joint function, posture, help relieve stress and be of great benefit in pain management (yes, movement rather than rest is often better to help pain).

If you have pain issues when attempting movement or there may be an injury, getting professional help may be best.
