BDNF – Brain-derived neurotrophic factor is a protein in nerve cells that keeps neurons in the brain growing and functioning, so the messages get through to the brain.
How does this relate to brain health? BDNF has been found to be lower in people with Alzheimer’s and dementia. It also decreases in the presence of inflammation (think diabetes, poor gut health, high stress, cardiovascular diseases).
Ok, so what can we do to stimulate BDNF to keep our brains working well and improve brain function if you, or someone you love, is already experiencing problems? Exercise. Aerobic exercise.
It is also very important to address inflammatory processes, gut and nutrition (I can help you with this), but getting your sneakers on and getting that body moving has proven results – and you can start this right now.
